What this part does

The front left axle shaft transfers rotational power from the front differential to the driver-side front wheel in all-wheel-drive configurations. It utilizes constant velocity joints at both ends, which are packed with grease and sealed inside flexible rubber boots, allowing the shaft to deliver smooth power even as the wheel steers and moves with the suspension. When a CV joint wears out or a boot tears, it typically produces a distinct clicking or popping sound during sharp, low-speed turns. Advanced wear can cause noticeable vibrations under hard acceleration or, in severe cases, a complete loss of power transfer to that wheel.

This shaft is designed strictly for the front left (driver) side of xDrive equipped models; rear-wheel-drive vehicles do not utilize a front axle shaft. When installing this component, it is highly recommended to replace the differential output seal at the same time to prevent gear oil leaks. Additionally, inspect your wheel hub and bearing for excess play or noise while the steering knuckle is partially disassembled, as it is much easier to replace them concurrently.
