What this part does

The Liftgate or Trunk Lid encloses the rear cargo compartment, providing structural security, weather sealing, and aerodynamic continuity for the rear of the vehicle. It serves as the mounting foundation for the rear window glass, wiper motor assembly, license plate bracket, and the rear latching mechanism. On modern luxury utility vehicles, this assembly also houses the control modules and wiring harnesses for the automated power close system and rear backup camera. When the outer shell is warped or severely dented due to an impact, the entire structure must be replaced to ensure the latch aligns correctly and the weather stripping seals out exhaust fumes and moisture.
