What this part does

The left side curtain airbag is mounted internally along the upper roof line, spanning from the A-pillar to the C-pillar above the doors. It deploys downward instantly during a moderate to severe side-impact collision or vehicle rollover, creating a protective cushion to prevent the heads of the driver and rear passenger from striking the side window glass, B-pillar, or intruding objects. The assembly is wired directly to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control module, which calculates the severity of an impact using external crash sensors. Once the squib fires and the nylon canopy is deployed, the unit is permanently spent and the complete assembly must be replaced to restore vehicle safety systems.
