What this part does

The Driver Airbag deploys instantly during a moderate to severe frontal collision to cushion the driver and prevent impact with the steering column. It mounts directly into the center of the steering wheel and receives its deployment signal from the Supplemental Restraint System module through the steering column's clock spring. A failure in the airbag's internal squib circuit or physical damage to its rear connectors will trigger a persistent SRS warning light on the instrument cluster, disabling the entire restraint system until the unit is replaced.
