What this part does
The seat adjuster switch mounts directly to the lower outboard trim panel of the front driver seat. It routes electrical current to the various seat motors, allowing the driver to control the forward, backward, height, tilt, and recline functions of the seat. If this component fails, the seat may become unresponsive, only move in certain directions, or cause a parasitic electrical draw that drains the vehicle's battery.
Fits these vehicles
This front left power seat switch fits the following BMW E39 models. Compatibility depends heavily on whether the vehicle is equipped with standard power seats or power seats with memory function.

Before you order
- Verify if your original seat has the memory function. The wiring harnesses and pin layouts for memory and non-memory BMW switches are completely different and cannot be interchanged.
- Inspect the plastic housing and connector pins on your original unit. It is common for the plastic mounting tabs on the trim panel to break, which can make a perfectly good switch feel loose or cause it to push backward into the seat trim when pressed.
- Match the button configuration of this replacement unit to your existing switch to ensure all seat articulation functions (such as adjustable lumbar support) are supported.
