What this part does
The hood hinges secure the rear of the hood panel to the chassis, providing the pivot point required to open and close the engine compartment. The attached shocks assist in lifting the hood and support its weight while it remains open. When the hinges bend or the pivot points seize, the hood will fail to align evenly with the fenders and cowl. If the internal seals of the shocks fail, the hood will slowly drop or slam shut unexpectedly.
