What this part does

The air filter box houses the engine air filter and serves as the primary intake point for ambient air entering the induction system. Located in the engine bay, it protects the filter element from heat, dirt, and moisture while directing a smooth, pressurized flow of air toward the mass airflow sensor and throttle body. When the housing cracks, warps from heat, or suffers broken latches, it allows unfiltered and unmetered air into the engine, which can lead to rough idling, triggered check engine lights, and accelerated internal engine wear.

Verify that your original housing uses the exact same part number, as intake routing differs significantly between the V6, V8, and diesel variants of this platform. Inspect your current air mass meter ducting to ensure it will mate cleanly to this replacement housing. The internal paper air filter element and any attached mass airflow sensors are not included with this enclosure unless they are explicitly shown in the photographs.
