What this part does

The Antenna Diversity Module is a specialized electronic receiver typically mounted beneath the rear spoiler or along the upper edge of the rear window glass. It evaluates incoming radio frequency signals from the multiple antenna grid lines embedded in the glass, actively switching to the strongest signal to maintain clear audio for the infotainment system. In many BMW models, this unit also serves as the primary receiver for the remote keyless entry system. When the module fails, you will typically experience static or complete loss of AM/FM radio reception, alongside a sudden inability to lock or unlock the vehicle doors using the remote key fob.

These modules operate on specific radio frequencies for the keyless entry system, most commonly 315 MHz for North American vehicles and 433 MHz or 868 MHz for other markets. You must verify the frequency printed on your original unit, as a mismatched module will restore radio function but will not communicate with your key fob. Additionally, failure of this component on touring (wagon) and SUV models is almost always caused by water ingress under the rear spoiler; inspect the wiring harness for corrosion and ensure the spoiler seals are replaced to prevent damaging the replacement unit.
