What this part does

The front brake caliper is a critical hydraulic component that houses the brake pistons and brake pads. Mounted directly to the front driver side steering knuckle, it receives hydraulic pressure from the brake master cylinder and forces the pads against the brake rotor to generate the friction needed to stop the vehicle. When this component fails, the internal pistons or guide pins typically seize, or the piston seals degrade and leak brake fluid. Symptoms of a failing caliper include the vehicle pulling sharply to one side during braking, premature or uneven brake pad wear, an overheated front wheel, or a spongy brake pedal due to fluid loss.

While it is possible to replace a single caliper, it is strongly recommended to inspect the opposite side for matching wear and proper piston retraction to prevent uneven braking dynamics. A complete brake fluid bleed of the front hydraulic circuit is required after installation to eliminate trapped air and restore pedal pressure.
