What this part does
The exhaust heat shield is a stamped aluminum or composite panel bolted to the underside of the floor pan, positioned directly above the exhaust routing. It reflects radiant heat generated by the catalytic converters, resonators, and muffler away from the passenger cabin, fuel tank, and sensitive drivetrain components. Over time, galvanic corrosion typically attacks the areas around the mounting holes, causing the shield to drop down and rest on the exhaust pipe. When this happens, it produces a loud, metallic rattle that is particularly noticeable at idle or low engine RPMs.
